The Number On The Scales...
If you find that you are always looking at the weighing scales when dieting and wondering WHY your weight is not dropping faster.
Or when you don’t see a big drop you feel like you’re failing.
Then please take 2 minutes to read this.
I cannot tell you how many times a person I have been working with has been making incredible progress but is completely disheartened because of the number on the scales…
To explain this I’m going to tell you that;
1lb of Fat roughly equates to 3,500 calories of energy.
1lb of Muscle roughly equates to 600 calories of energy.
Now, hypothetically let’s say I put you in a 3500 calorie deficit per week.
If 100% of your weight loss was to come from Fat stores you would lose 1lb of fat per week.
(3,500 divided by 3500 = 1)
If 100% of your weight loss came from muscle it would come to 5.8lb per week..
(3,500 divided by 600 = 5.8)
So you can see if you’re losing fat your rate of actual weight loss is going to be a lot slower than if you were losing muscle.
Don’t go thinking you want to lose muscle now to see a faster rate of weight loss..
Weight loss and fat loss are not the same thing.
If you want to feel better, look leaner, look better in and out clothes. Then you want to lose fat and maintain as much muscle as possible.
All of these dieting clubs did not care if you lost muscle or fat because it is easy to re-market..
“Sheila lost 15lbs in 2 weeks” That would most definitely get a lot of peoples attention. But, what they’re not telling you is Sheila lost mostly muscle & kept a lot of fat and most likely doesn’t look or feel any better for it!
When it comes to changing your appearance (losing body fat) Slower weight loss is actually a positive sign that you are in fact losing fat and keeping muscle.
Don’t get it mixed up. Weight is just how heavy you are, that’s it!!
Creating a calorie deficit and losing body fat is actually losing fat and changing how you look.
Why get so caught up in your weight, if you feel absolutely incredible when you take off your clothes?
Why care about your weight if you can now start wearing clothes that didn’t fit you before?
Why care about weight if you now feel comfortable wearing something other than the colour black?
Take away point, slow weight loss is a good thing.
We want to lose fat, not lose a lot of weight in a short space of time.
Don’t fall for the fads or dieting clubs basing your progress on weight alone. All they care about is sharing your weight loss story with other people to get more money!!
Manage your calories, aim for a protein target & be active..
